Locally Led Adaptation

Locally Led Adaptation

The Locally Led Adaptation Program by the Centre for Climate Action strengthens community-driven approaches to climate adaptation by placing local knowledge, leadership, and priorities at the centre of climate action. The program supports communities to design and implement solutions that respond directly to their lived realities and climate risks.

It promotes decentralized decision-making, local capacity building, and sustainable resource management to ensure adaptation efforts are inclusive, practical, and resilient. The program also enhances collaboration between communities, governments, and partners to scale locally relevant climate solutions.

Key focus areas include:

Promoting climate adaptation approaches that place local communities at the center of decision-making, ensuring solutions are grounded in lived experience, local knowledge, and context-specific risks.

Building the capacity of local governments, community-based organizations, and grassroots institutions to design, implement, and sustain effective adaptation actions.

Supporting locally driven systems for identifying climate risks, planning responses, and building resilience to floods, droughts, heat stress, and other climate impacts.

Improving access to climate finance, technical support, and resources for local actors, ensuring fair distribution and reduced barriers for vulnerable communities.

Recognizing and integrating indigenous and local knowledge systems into adaptation planning to enhance effectiveness, cultural relevance, and long-term sustainability.
